We already discussed about the 12 zodiac signs which are applicable to all human beings alike. But every human being is different. This is because every zodiac sign acts differently for different people. To personalize the zodiac for a person, we need to note the birth date, time and place of the person. At the time of birth of the person, we should first know the angle between the rising Sun and the Eastern horizon. This angle is called Ascendant or first house.

Horoscope (Jatakam)

We should understand that the Ascendant may fall again in some zodiac sign, may be it is Aries or Taurus. We should note down the sign of the Ascendant. This is called the first house first bhava which indicates the person’s mental and physical state. We should start counting the zodiac signs starting from the Ascendant only. Hence the next sign following the Ascendant is counted as second house or second bhava. Thus we will have 12 houses or bhavas which fall in the 12 signs of the zodiac. These houses represent different departments in the human life. When we draw a chart representing the 12 houses, it is called the horoscope of the person. Please remember the horoscope of a person not only shows the houses but also the planets positions in each house. Now, let us know the meaning of each house in the horoscope.
